10 Ways to Increase Your Medium Success in 2020

After nearly two years of writing for the site, I’ve learned a lot about ways to grow your success. Here are 10 of them!

I still remember as a kid wondering what the world was going to be like in the year 2000, let alone the year 2010, let alone 2020, wow!

I always like to think of a new year as a way to start over, analyze what worked and what didn’t in the previous few months, and go after my dreams more than ever.

This is especially true of a new decade. I’ve had lots of successes and failures in my writing life the past ten years, and one of the greatest successes has been my writing for Medium the past twenty months.

Sure, it took me ten months before I started making decent income on the site. Sure, I’ve hit some struggle lately having to deal with curation jail.

But I’m more optimistic than ever that 2020 on Medium is going to be the best year yet… for all of us.

Here are 10 ways to increase your success on the site in the new year!

This is the big thing I do on Medium. I’ve heard from readers that producing tons of endless content on Medium can be counterproductive. And I do think that’s the case for writing too much. Write five stories a day and potentially all of them will get lost in the shuffle. You don’t want this.

For two weeks in April I wrote between six and seven stories every day on Medium. That just became too much to sustain. I was getting burnt out big time, there was no way around it, and writing fewer pieces a day was the solution.

For much of the year I wrote three new stories a day, and if you have the time and energy and dedication, that’s something you should definitely try, if even for a month or two to grow your number of fans.

But at minimum aim for one new story a day. It keeps you in the conversation. It keeps you writing, which is the most important thing.
