Postcard

A scene where you had been

Down by the seaside
near the salt sea and sand
I waited smiling appealingly
on the postcard stand.

I winked at you and I knew
by the sparkle in your eye
that the scene where you had been
made up your mind to buy.

I felt you lick so you could stick
a stamp on me up tops
a cute message to your girlfriend
then dropped in the mailbox.

I heard the buzz of a bike
and was driven up a ramp
dropped into a truck
and marked on my postage- stamp.

I’m sorted and cavorted
categorized as a deport
destined for delivery
then driven to the airport.

On a flight in the night
it’s all systems go
pushed and shoved then taken to
the post-office’s main depot.

I’m categorized by numbers
then on the postie’s round
dropped into your mailbox
where later I’ll be found.

I’m sometimes sent for reasons
to pique a little envy
a scene to be remembered
most of all I’m friendly.

Place me on the mantle
show me to your friends
a little piece of scenery
through a telephoto lens.

I just love to be handled
passed from hand to hand
admired for my beauty
the best view in the land.
