Project 1 Retrospective

Doing this project presented a few challenges. One of the main things that could have been done better is the filming. I did not notice until I was editing the video, but the audio levels were a bit wonky. Although attention was paid to the environment to ensure a fairly noiseless environment, we did not pay attention to the position of the microphone in the environment. The way to improve that would have been to use an additional microphone positioned closer to me to aid the camera microphone. This would have made the audio levels more consistent and more similar to an actual interview. Another issue we had was with the fact that my camera battery got low on charge as we were filming and so we only did a few takes per scene, and if the battery was fuller, we could have recorded a few more takes to really nail the scenes. Lastly, the framing was a bit off, and so a better vantage point for the camera could have been used to ensure that I was placed better into the frame.

Overall, the project was a good experience. We learned a lot about the creative process of Paul McCartney. Using different sources like interviews, articles, as well as a live explanation during a concert allowed us to gain insight that was fairly deep. As someone interested in creating music, it was very interesting to read how the Beatles came up with their songs and how even the great artists don’t have a set method. It can be very daunting to create music, and Paul’s explanation of his method, as well as his statement that he still doesn’t quite feel confident about his music is reassuring. As I said, it was an interesting project and I am glad we chose the person we did.
