How to make stunning panoramics

Panoramic photos means a technique that allows you to connect multiple photos of a scene using points in common between them. By doing so, you can enlarge the scene by surpassing the limit of the focal length used and allowing you to capture more details.

Over the years I have composed several panoramic and I would like to share with you my experiences, suggesting you how to proceed and some tricks that will allow you to make stunning panoramic.

The tools I use are basically two: a photo editor (Darktable) and a photo stitcher (Hugin). Darktable is used for post-production and is inspired by Adobe Ligthroom, while the latter is a project born with Google Summer School and later popularized to build panoramic. These tools will be covered in next articles.

First of all you have to choose the scene that you want to capture. By its nature it must be a large scene, or that has several subjects to be included in its context. I am specialized in panoramic created by landscapes, but nothing forbids doing it with other situations. Let’s see how to create a panoramic:
